Yachao Zhu

Yachao Zhu began his dance career at age of 10 and trained in Ballet, contemporary, Chinese minority and classical dance styles from China and US. He received BFA in Dance from Minzu University of China and had worked with Beijing Dance Theater and tour with company both local and international. He served as dance faculty in 2011 and then continue his journey to pursue his MFA in dance from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University in 2014.

While his studying in New York, Yachao has been working with many artists including, Netta Yerushalmy, Gregory Dolbashian, Lance Gifford, Cherylyn Lavagnino. Yachao also founded Asia Duo Dance Company in New York in 2015 and produced two full-length dance work “Topsy” and “Axiomatic” premiered in Salvatore Capezio Theater New York and Damansara Performing Arts Center in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Through out his carrer, Yachao has been rewarded many national and international awards, including 2016 The Paulette Goddard Scholarship Grant by Tisch School of Arts NYU, 2016  The Trinity Laban Dance Scholarship Award, 2013 The Outstanding Teacher Award awarded by MUC, 2012 First Prize in the China National Galaxy Award, 2012 First Prize (solo) in the 1st “Singapore International Chinese Dance Competition, 2012 First Prize (solo) in the North China Dance Competition,2010 First Prize (solo) in the 3rd Musical Dance Competition of Henan Province, 2009 First Prize (solo) in the 11th Beijing Dance Competition, 2009 Second Prize in the 5th CCTV Dance Competition.

As an choreographer and independent artists,Yachao Zhu had presented his choreography in many venues and festivals. Downtown Manhattan Dance Festival at New York, Jack Crystal Theater NYU, ,Addition Dance Festival in UK and Chungmu International Dance Festival in Seoul Korea. He has taught dance workshop in many University and Arts academy including New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, Central Academy of Drama of China, University of Philippines, Malaysia National Performing arts University, Dance Department of Music Academy of Wuhan, China and Beijing Dance Theater.
